The Astrology of May 2026:
Eruption and Awakening

May 1, 2026 — May is a pivotal month filled with eruptions and awakenings. Pluto and Uranus, the great planetary disruptors, dominate the sky, initiating irreversible change. We begin the month with a charged Scorpio Full Moon. Whatever we have suppressed within our bodies, relationships, or words finds its way out. Pluto then stations retrograde on May 6, intensifying pressure while turning our attention toward patterns we've been clinging to past their expiration dates.

The month's most auspicious transit arrives on May 16, when a gorgeous Taurus New Moon forms conjunct Mercury and Uranus while sextiling Jupiter in Cancer. We may feel uplifted now as opportunities reveal themselves and doors easily open. Simultaneously, Mars makes its final conjunction to Chiron in Aries—the last in this sign for decades. This marks a long-awaited close to years of healing our wounds around identity, confidence, desire, and masculinity. We are ready to turn the corner and find our way back to ourselves and more loving connections.

As the month progresses, the air becomes electric. Mercury enters Gemini on May 17 and conjoins Uranus, followed by the Sun. This is the first Gemini season with Uranus present in nearly 80 years. We’re quickening our thoughts, communication, and perception, while new connections snap into place. The way we've oriented toward life begins to feel lighter, less fixed, and more alive.

On May 26, Pluto squares Mars and trines the Sun, calling for a final, deeper layer of spring cleaning. The planets are reaching into the depths of our fears and psyches to shake them out. Confrontations may arise, but they’re helping expose the last major truths we’re still hiding from, while stripping us down to our most authentic selves and desires.

A second full moon arrives in Sagittarius on May 31, trining Neptune and Saturn in Aries. By now, something has genuinely shifted. We feel different in body and perspective. That is what Uranus and Pluto are offering us—change that we’ve felt coming for so long but was never quite reachable. We may even start to forget the struggles that got us here, like the pain of labor dissolving after giving birth. The textures of our new orientation are so vivid and present that we can barely remember what came before. Old demons may try to rear their heads, but they have no life here. The new frequencies won’t allow them to breathe, much less torment us. Our excitement and the vast breadth of possibilities are sparkling and ready to grow brighter still, even amid the chaos of enormous change.

MAY 2026 TRANSITS

SCORPIO FULL MOON

The Scorpio Full Moon arrives on May 1, forming a square with Pluto, while its ruler Mars squares Jupiter and Mercury conjoins Chiron. The Taurus-Scorpio axis illuminates the give-and-take in our closest exchanges. Who gives, who withholds, and who has been keeping score? Whatever has been suppressed is now erupting. With Mercury conjunct Chiron, old wounds may surface in conversation, and that’s okay. Sometimes eruption and painful truths are necessary for healing.

PLUTO STATIONS RETROGRADE

Pluto stations retrograde on May 6 at 5° Aquarius. When slow-moving planets change direction, their energy concentrates, and Pluto is no exception. This is a time to turn inward and examine what is still hidden beneath the surface. We are evaluating old Capricorn-era identities, roles, and oppressive power dynamics that we've been unconsciously maintaining. What are we still carrying that was already finished? The more honestly we answer, the more liberating this transit becomes.

MARS CONJUNCT CHIRON

Mars conjoins Chiron at 28° Aries on May 16 in their final meeting in this sign for at least four decades. Since 2018, Chiron in Aries has been tending to our deepest wounds around identity, self-assertion, desire, and masculinity. Mars here may stir memories of being dismissed, disempowered, or told we were too much or not enough. And yet, this is also where those stories close. Who we are and what we want matter. Chiron will soon move into Taurus, opening new terrain to heal. This is a graduation moment that calls us to root into our true confidence and anchor into ourselves, rather than seek external validation.

TAURUS NEW MOON

A gorgeous Taurus New Moon forms on May 16, conjunct Mercury and Uranus while sextiling Jupiter in Cancer. At the same time, Venus, the chart's ruler, sextiles Mars. This is one of the more auspicious New Moons of the year. It’s strong, supportive, and just Uranian enough to shift our perception. Opportunities we've overlooked suddenly become visible. Relationships and potentials have laid dormant reveal their potential. With a few small tweaks and a reframe, we can create something beautiful from resources that we already have.

MERCURY ENTERS GEMINI, CONJUNCT URANUS

Mercury enters its home sign of Gemini on May 17 and conjoins Uranus the following day—the first such meeting of these two in Gemini in decades. Whether it arrives from the outside as surprising news, or from within as a sudden shift in perception, things begin to click together in new ways. Ideas that previously felt scattered congeal into something meaningful. Breakthroughs and brilliance are abundant.

SUN ENTERS GEMINI, CONJUNCT URANUS

The Sun enters Gemini on May 20 and immediately conjoins Uranus. This is the first Gemini season in nearly 80 years with Uranus in the sign, and the shift is palpable. Life feels lighter, faster, and less predetermined. Expect new information, unexpected turns, and a loosening of whatever has felt stuck or overly fixed. The area of our chart ruled by Gemini is alive with potential.

MARS SQUARE PLUTO, SUN TRINE PLUTO

On May 26, Mars squares alchemical Pluto while the Sun trines it. This is a one-two pulse of deep transformation. The square brings to light whatever has been quietly driving our hesitation or sense of limitation. The trine offers support to act on that awareness. This is spring cleaning at its most essential. We’re purifying our foundations and stepping into greater, quieter authenticity and truth.

SAGITTARIUS FULL MOON

The month closes with a Sagittarius Full Moon on May 31, trine Neptune and Saturn in Aries, square the Nodes. Having moved through Pluto's excavations and Uranus's jolts, there is now space to breathe, look around, and wonder. Something has shifted—not just in our circumstances, but in how we see the world and our own being. We may find ourselves in what looks like the same life and discover we are a different person within it. And from here, life may also start rapidly changing around us.

MAY 2026 ASPIRATION

In the midst of eruption and awakening, may we trust that what has been falling away is nearly finished. May we answer the beaming light calling us through doors that were open all along.
