The Astrology of JULY 2026:
The Cat’s Cradle Forms

July 1, 2026 — If June was an exhale, July is the sharp inhale before everything begins moving again. The month opens already in motion, with Jupiter now in Leo while immediately squaring Chiron in Taurus. The sky doesn't loosen its grip from here. We move through a Mars-Uranus conjunction, a Cancer New Moon, Neptune's first retrograde in Aries, and finally arrive at the long-building Cat’s Cradle pattern that has been quietly weaving together beneath the surface.

This is the most significant stretch of the year. The atmosphere is electric, occasionally overwhelming, and full of possibility. The first week asks us to hold the tension between security and self-expression while moving carefully through a few high-voltage days. Mid-month softens into something more interior. A Cancer New Moon invites stillness before the current returns. The second half of July accelerates into one of the most important planetary configurations of our lifetimes, as Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Jupiter all activate in rapid succession. In the end, we arrive at an Aquarius Full Moon that feels less like the culmination of a month and more like the climax of an entire era.

There is real promise in this sky. Something genuinely new can take root now, in our lives and in the collective imagination alike. But the same current that makes breakthrough possible can also tempt us toward overreach. This is dragon-riding weather, and we need to keep both hands firmly on the reins.

JULY 2026 TRANSITS

JUPITER SQUARE CHIRON

The month opens under a square between Jupiter in Leo and Chiron in Taurus, exact on July 1. Both planets changed signs only days before. Chiron entered Taurus on June 19, and Jupiter entered Leo on June 30. New themes are announcing themselves loudly. Chiron in Taurus draws our attention toward nourishment, money, resources, embodiment, and worth. Jupiter in Leo inspires courage, creativity, and unapologetic self-expression. Between the need for security and the need to become more fully ourselves, a deeper conversation begins now that runs beneath the entire month. Where do we still believe we have to choose between what's safe and what's true?

MARS CONJUNCT URANUS

On July 4, Mars meets Uranus in Gemini and the temperature spikes. This is a day of sudden developments, breakthrough thinking, nervous system volatility, and genuine instability. New ideas and technological leaps are likely, but so are short fuses, scattered attention, and a higher risk of accidents or reckless decisions. This transit asks us to slow down right when everything in us wants to speed up. We might avoid acting on impulse. What wants to happen quickly that would be better served by patience?

Later that day, Mars sextiles Neptune in Aries, and then trines Pluto in Aquarius on July 5. Words and actions carry unusual force now, making discernment especially important. What we say lands. What others say lands too. On July 6, a square between the Sun in Cancer and Saturn in Aries brings us back to reality and asks us to take responsibility for the last few days.

NEPTUNE STATIONS RETROGRADE

Neptune turns retrograde in Aries on July 7, where it will remain until December 12. This is Neptune's first retrograde since entering Aries, and it asks us to review our visions and ideals and question whether they still hold. Neptune in Aries carries a warrior archetype. Part of this review is a sober reflection: which of our aspirations have we actually achieved, and what did they cost us? What dream are we still carrying that may need to be revised rather than abandoned?

VENUS ENTERS VIRGO

Venus moves into Virgo on July 9, then squares Uranus on July 13. Love and relationships turn toward something more concrete now. Venus in Virgo isn't usually interested in taking risks, but this square gives her an unexpected jolt. New ideas about how to do things differently pair with a real desire to actually try them. This is also fertile ground for starting a health protocol, a therapeutic process, or simply clearing out the parts of our life that have gotten cluttered. What in our personal life has grown vague, and what would it look like to make it concrete?

CANCER NEW MOON

A Cancer New Moon arrives on July 14, joined by a Sun-Mercury conjunction, with Mercury sitting exactly at the Venus-Uranus midpoint. This lunation calls us inward and toward the subtler currents of our own being. For some that might mean genuine quiet, time in nature, or simply listening. For others, it might mean entering deep creative work as a form of self-discovery. Either way, this is fertile ground for new beginnings and an important counterweight to the fire and air dominating the rest of the month. What do we need to feel, rather than fix, before we move forward?

URANUS, PLUTO, AND THE BUILDUP TO THE CAT’S CRADLE

The back half of July is where the month's real intensity gathers. The sextile between Uranus and Neptune becomes exact on July 15, followed by the trine between Uranus and Pluto on July 18, one of the defining signatures of the year. Mars sextiles Saturn on July 19. Then, in quick succession, Jupiter trines Neptune and opposes Pluto on July 20, and sextiles Uranus on July 21.

These days are high-voltage. Because all three collective planets—Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto—are activated through this period, and Jupiter touches each of them within days, the effects are likely to be visible well beyond our personal lives. We're living inside a years-long story here, the gradual shift from an Earth-dominant era to an Air-dominant one, and this stretch of July makes that shift unusually clear.

It's a strong window for advancing thoroughly prepared, well-grounded projects, the kind of undertaking that could genuinely succeed in a big way. The shadow side, as with any Icarus story, is hubris. Losing touch with reality or letting ego outrun substance can turn a promising ascent into a hard fall. However, breakthrough energy is the most powerful it’s possibly ever been, and this period of time holds the potential to turn our stories around, big and small, for the better. It’s a once-in-humanity kind of moment that begins an entirely new era and establishes a fresh energetic frequency.

MERCURY DIRECT / SATURN RETROGRADE

Mercury turns direct in Cancer on July 23, easing agreements and negotiations that may have stalled. On July 26, Saturn stations retrograde, where it will stay until December 11. This opens a season of review and honest assessment—a chance to look carefully at the past several months and make the course corrections that are needed before moving forward again.

AQUARIUS FULL MOON

The Sun in Leo opposes Pluto, trines Neptune, and sextiles Uranus on July 27, activating the same three collective planets that Jupiter touched a week earlier. Then, on July 29, a Full Moon in Aquarius forms, conjunct Pluto and in exact conjunction between the Sun and Jupiter. Venus in Virgo squares Mars in Gemini, each forming a semi-square to the Sun and Jupiter and a sesquiquadrate to the Moon, creating a striking kite pattern across the chart.

This feels like the culmination of everything July has been building toward. The quality of time is vivid and full of possibility, capable of producing events that feel like genuine turning points. This could mean a breakthrough, a social shift, or a new voice entering the collective conversation that will affect us for a long time. Where are magic and splendor joining together with discernment? And can we embody both clarity and wonder simultaneously?

JULY 2026 ASPIRATION

In the throes of an extreme summer marked by earthquakes and heat waves, may we meet this intensity with grounded realism, unwavering hope, and openness to magic. May we ride the electric currents with confidence and ease, building something real even as change erupts rapidly.
