The Astrology of 2024:
shock + auspicious change

January 1, 2024 — Revolutionary shifts are afoot in 2024 as we enter a powerful year of rapid change, breakthrough, technological advancement, and shocking turns. Pluto moves into Aquarius twice this year because of retrogrades. Starting in November, he will remain there for the next twenty years, fully ushering us into the Aquarian Age and the next chapter of humanity.

For parts of the year, Pluto still teeters on the last degree of Capricorn, throwing up roadblocks. The threat of rebirth causes some to cling to the old paradigm with increased fervor. But we are breaking through, finally making progress after years of struggle. We are waking up from harmful propaganda and finding ways to unplug from oppressive, bigoted, capitalistic norms that sacrifice the well-being of Earth and her inhabits for the wealth of a few. In our personal lives, we are shaking off painful cycles that never seem to end.

Jupiter conjoins with Uranus in a rare and shocking conjunction on April 20, sparking abrupt and auspicious events and unfoldments. Next, Jupiter ingresses into Gemini in June while trining Pluto in Aquarius. These transits are pushing us toward innovation, wild ideas, and a new understanding of the universe that could transform humanity as we know it. This is the precursor to Uranus moving into Gemini in 2025 and 2026. If we’ve been frustrated—stuck in stagnant, limiting patterns—we are about to experience further relief. We are moving into liberation and marked changes in how we think, relate, and view the world. Both technologically and spiritually, we are ready to elevate a few octaves.

As Buckminster Fuller said, “Whether it is to be utopia or oblivion will be a touch-and-go relay race right up to the final moment.” In order to attain utopia, we can’t give up hope or lose touch with our visions of what could be. So much is ready to shift. While drama and suffering are certain, so are miraculous changes, leaps forward, and glimpses of a more enlightened world. The highest potentials can transpire if we stay vigilant, keeping our spines strong and our hearts soft as we break down old barriers and construct a new reality. This is a long, messy, and painful process, but if we work together, anything is possible.

2024 ASPIRATION

On the precipice of a potent New Year, may we hold the vision of a peaceful world that supports all life and honors the Earth as sacred. May we hold hands and rise in empathy and wisdom, recognizing that in loving unity, the power of many is far greater than the destruction of a few.

2024 TRANSITS

PLUTO MOVES INTO AQUARIUS

Pluto moves into Aquarius twice in 2024—on January 20 and November 19. Because of retrogrades, Pluto will return to Capricorn for a few months starting September 1. By November, Pluto remains in Aquarius for twenty years, igniting a new era. We are breaking down barriers from the past, while fighting for freedom and the reinvention of established norms. We are more fully inhabiting the Aquarian Age—an age marked by technological advancement and justice. While there’s still tension between the past (Capricorn) and the future (Aquarius), the future is rapidly beginning to take hold. This is the culmination of a long period of epic release and the toppling of old paradigms. We’ve been undergoing the transformation of historical karma and trauma as crises have emerged around systems, structures, and society. We are now stepping into more egalitarian times. We will likely see people rising, revolting against oppression, fascism, and needless violence, war, and atrocities, and rebelling against the weight of the past. It’s time to envision the future and become its architects. Technology has the potential to start supporting living rather than dying—offering innovative solutions more than pollution and weaponry. We’re awakening to distorted truths that keep us in brutish, inhumane, and careless habituations.

SATURN-NEPTUNE CONJUNCTION

While Saturn doesn’t exactly conjoin Neptune in 2024, he does move within 10º of the conjunction, which will remain until 2026. Historically, this has marked significant changes in leadership throughout the world, especially in Russia. This transit might trigger water crises globally—navel wars, tsunamis, dams breaking, et cetera. In broader terms, this marks the dissolving of current structures of reality. Surrender is key as we make way for the new. We may feel unsure about what’s real and what’s not, especially as AI generates videos and images that are more difficult to identify as fake. Our perseverance and attentiveness will serve us in avoiding painful confusion over the next couple of years.

JUPITER URANUS CONJUNCTION

Jupiter conjoins with Uranus on April 20 at 21º Taurus, marking electrifying change and auspiciousness. We might experience hairpin turns and sudden transformation in all facets of our lives and the collective narrative. Revolts, windfalls, awakenings, and technological advancement are all likely. Scientific discoveries could mean that our understanding of the universe and the nature of reality burst open and change the way we see ourselves and life in general. Our ideological, spiritual, and religious perspectives are also up for revision, and we may witness an explosion of truth, or answers to long-standing mysteries and conspiracies. Since Taurus rules food, farming, real estate, money, and the environment, it’s possible that we’ll feel significant shifts in these domains. If we’ve been stuck in stubbornness or patterns that seem deeply entrenched and impossible to end, we now have the opportunity for rapid-fire liberation. On the shadow side, there could be natural disasters, crop loss, or even an electromagnetic storm. Unpredictable events are set to change the courses of our lives, for better or worse. Jupiter tends to have a benefic influence, so we can stay hopeful that whatever changes emerge will be positive—even if they begin with shock or crisis.

JUPITER MOVES INTO GEMINI

Jupiter moves into Gemini from May 25, 2024 to June 9, 2025. The planet of good fortune, expansion, and abundance is now entering the sign of intellect, communication, and politics. We begin the transit with Jupiter trining Pluto from May 24 to September 1. This ingress is likely to bring about epic scientific and technological discoveries, noteworthy dialogues and debates, creative works, and the rising of intellectual voices. Gemini rules curiosity and paradox, so we are ready to question zealotry and break out of harmful indoctrination, from religion, society, or governments. Noteworthy inventions, artistic outpourings, and breakthroughs in aviation and space could change the way we live. Meanwhile, the battle continues between what is real and what is not. Throughout the year, we have much to cipher through. We need to be vigilant in questioning information before jumping to rigid beliefs, dogma, or the repetition of lies.

MARS STORY OF 2024 / MARS RETROGRADE

Mars is very active in 2024, forming major aspects with the outer planets. This is more pronounced because the north node is in Mars-ruled Aries. Conflict, fighting, war, volatility, and struggle seem inevitable. In February, Mars opposes Pluto, and we may witness paranoia, power struggles, control, obsession, and people working behind the scenes to wield power. The U.S. elections are bound to be dramatic as Mars conjoins Pluto on Election Day, continuing the Mars-Pluto themes from February. In some ways we are fighting for the future, and we’re at odds over which direction to choose. By the end of the year, Mars stations retrograde from December 6, 2024 to February 23, 2025. He starts his journey at 6º Leo before returning to Cancer. Issues around leadership, anger, conflict, and masculinity are on the table—up for review and recalibration. We won’t feel resolution until Spring of 2025, when Mars leaves his shadow. With the retrograde beginning just after the U.S. presidential election, we may witness spectacle, exhaustion, and confusion around the results.

2024 ECLIPSES

Two eclipse seasons are ready to rock us this year, in the spring (late March and early April) and fall (mid-September and early October). The spring eclipses ignite themes around war and peace, conflict and harmony. In our interpersonal dynamics and the collective, we are finding ways to address longstanding issues around separation and love, independence and togetherness. Old wounds are rising to the surface to be healed.

The Total Solar Eclipse on April 8 falls across the United States—the last Great American Eclipse until 2045. We are ready for a big shake-up in the U.S. that could involve abrupt changes in power and leaders’ popularity, or even their sudden fall.

The Lunar Eclipse on September 17 begins an eclipse cycle along the Pisces-Virgo axis, though the north node remains in Aries. Fogginess, delusion, and disillusionment could arise, and we may forget what we are even fighting for. The theme of disagreement versus interconnection holds as we work out what we believe and question our moral frameworks.

The final eclipse of the year is a Libra Solar Eclipse on October 2. By now, we are hopefully making agreements and entering some new cycles around peace and love. We are becoming more vulnerable and comfortable with healthy conflict, while finding our way into greater truth and compassion.

Comets occur alongside these eclipses, increasing their power. We are likely to experience great changes in power dynamics across the world with a shift toward true democracy for all. While fighting is inevitable, we can hold the vision that its outcome will ultimately be greater peace. Somehow we are moving into new norms that support all of us and the Earth in becoming freer, more cared for, and joyful. How soon we arrive there depends on how we resist and how we rise.
